Finally about done with back-to-school shopping, all but the art supplies. School fees this year for "free" public education topped $1100. Add in supplies, then clothes (mostly uniforms), new underwear, socks, shoes and backpacks and you have retailers singing "It's the most wonderful time of the year". I think we spent more in the last couple of weeks then we do at Christmas.....
Got up this morning and made the baby a jumper. That was fun. :-)
Big political news of the past week - Utah has a new governor. I went to the inauguration, took a bunch of pictures and blogged about it two different places - www.utahgop.wordpress.com and www.hollyonthehill.wordpress.comGovernor Herbert actually knows who I am. That's very cool.
Let's see - we are just getting into canning season. We've done pickles and have frozen a boatload of zucchini, but it just keeps a'comin'. Kinda like that old I Love Lucy episode in the chocolate factory - it just keeps coming. I need more recipes, for sure. I think this is the all-time most prolific year we have ever had for zucchini.
Tomatoes are ripening slowly - enough that we can use them here and there, but SOO many nice green ones on the vine. Oh, and peppers out the wazoo, too. Once the tomatoes start getting red, it'll be salsa everyday here....I also ordered 10 bushels of peaches and about the same in pears....We ran out of both this year.....
The big family news of the week is that Aaron has a girlfriend - Rachel. It's our first doubling-up on names, so we have big Rachel and little Rachel unless we can think of something nicer than big and little. (Old and young doesn't really work, either). He really, really likes her. In fact, he kissed her last night - first kiss of his lifetime - woot!
Nafe is being stupid and making incredibly dumb choices right now, doggone it. What is with these darn teens and them losing all brain cells. Hope he finds some again before he totally screws up his future. (No, it's nothing illegal or immoral - just downright stupid)
Josh's birthday is next Monday. He'll be 15. 10 days or so later is Hal's. He'll be 14. Then Nafe who will be 16 and then we're full-on into autumn.
And speaking of autumn, the weather here has had a decided fall tinge to it. Last weekend, then this weekend, a high around 70, rains and downright nippy at night. I love it. No color in the mountains yet - I checked carefully yesterday. Soon, though....
The other biggish family news is that school starts back this week. Twelve weeks off, gone, *snap* just like that. Nothing much accomplished, either, sigh.....Taiza is excited to start kindergarten. It's hard for me to have the days broken up like they are with kindergarten, but she'll have fun once she warms up. SHe's just so darn shy otherwise....
Anyway, that's all the news that's fit to print!
