Preparedness Challenge, Jan 8

1. Garden work: No, but staring to think about it more

2. Preserve something: Not this week – got son into the MTC.

3. Work on food storage: I worked on living off our food storage. Not 100%, but our food expenses for the week were less than $100.

4. Other preparedness tasks:

5. Try a new recipe or a new variation: Tried several this week, including homemade English muffins.

6. Financial preparedness: See food storage – trying to seriously reduce spending.

7. Work on local food systems: Yes, if by local you mean my own food storage room.

8. Learn something new: I learned that the government passed a law that will immediately put all “cottage” industries making items for kids right out of business – no more mamas sewing cloth diapers, slings, embroidered clothes, etc. Used clothing still questionable, as they are not apparently required to be tested, but would still be held liable to the lead standards that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has decided are appropriate. $100,000 fine and jail time for each infraction. It had me stomping mad for days . . . . we have lost our freedoms as Americans . . .

9. Serve someone: Helped watch my friends kids while her baby is in the hospital.
