Preparedness Challenge, Jan 15

1. Garden work: Starting to plan our seed-starting adventures in the next 2 to 4 weeks. Woohoo!

2. Preserve something: No, but I did get 2 more canning books, including one on winning blue ribbons at the fair. :)

3. Work on food storage: Still living on our food storage – have spent $120 on food this week.

4. Other preparedness tasks:
List-making for my Top 10 priorities in garden work, preparedness work, etc.

5. Try a new recipe or a new variation: Tried a new peach chicken-curry Crockpot recipe. Yum. Made M&M cookies instead of chocolate chip – they turned out great!

6. Financial preparedness: Again, trying to cut spending to the bone to get out of debt. Still paying extra on the mortgage.

7. Work on local food systems: No.

8. Learn something new: Not new, I guess, but am reminded again how much I love being involved in politics (when I don't hate it – it's either one or the other, no middle ground) and how much I love being a midwife. I am still trying to decide which one of those will win the tipping point for my time – more on politics, or more on midwifery . . . . right now, politics is winning.

9. Serve someone:
The midwifery and birthing community of Utah by continuing to fight to preserve their birthing rights and freedoms.

For your garden seeds, might I suggest non-hybrid varieties? That way, you can harvest seeds at the end of the season and never have to buy them again ... in case your seed supplier goes away.

There's a very reasonably priced pack (30 varieties) at http://www.internet-grocer.net/seeds.htm
